Hello, my name is Emma Garland and that’s me with some legs up there.
I write primarily about pop culture, sex, and politics. When I’m not doing that I’m probably eating or watching cartoons. Outside of journalism I can only express myself using Shania Twain lyrics, Pusheen and the emoji that goes like this -_-
In 2010 I graduated from Bath Spa University with a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing. After that, I went on to complete a MA in International Journalism at Cardiff University, graduating with distinction. My thesis was on the use of satire and political humour by oppositional groups as a method of nonviolent resistance, looking at conflicts in Syria, Egypt, Serbia and Russia as case studies. In 2016, I was nominated as Culture Writer of the Year at the inaugural Words by Women Awards.
I’m currently Assistant Editor at Noisey UK, VICE’s music site, and you can find all my work in one handy place on the Internet here. My work has also appeared on VICE, Pitchfork, Thump, The Guardian, The Guide, The Debrief, and Glamour, among others.
You can also subscribe to my TinyLetter if you like.
